Buzzy Bee is one! Oh, and what fun we had on her one year old birthday. Cousins came from afar... Lili and Hadley from Atlanta, Jake, Ben and Maddie from Minnesota. Many friends joined in the fun... Naomi, Owen, Calvin, Tal, Dominique, Sofia, Paulinho, Joao Vitor and even Auntie Bee Wendy-lin... and many other friends of mom and dad's buzzed on by to play and sing Happy Birthday to lil' Bee. We had Brazilian treats (brigadeiro, coxinha, empadinha, pao de queijo), hot dogs and popcorn. We had some fun activities too... We all buzzed around with our antennas and stingers (thanks to the help of auntie Tracy and Rosana). And we played ' pin the stinger on the bee', and smashed the pinata to pieces. The pinata had already gone headless because mom put too much candie in it! Well, Bee surely had a wonderful time and wants to thank all who came and thought of her on her birthday. Here are some pictures to show all the fun we had.
This time of the year is just perfect...and even more now after Bia's
birth. In the lunar year she turns one on Good Friday...but by the
Gregorian calendar her one year birthday is just in a couple more weeks. Our Easter was beautiful...the weather was great... Peter and KB came to visit... we all worked in the garden...great friends joined us for a leg of lamb and sweet bread... all in all we cannot complain.
We worked hard in the back area of our house. Thanks Pete and KB for the great help! Now we have a small lawn and a few roses in the back...still have a lot to do in the front of the house though. Sunday we had a nice breakfast and went off to church...looking our best. Doesn't Bia look like a China doll? Dress given by vo' Ruth. So cute! Then back at the house John made one of the best legs of lamb I've had in my life. Peter and Barty approved...though Barty had an indigestion later after swallowing the huge bone - no more cooked bones for him!
We have been doing a lot this past month... late February we met with the 'Sa Erps' and Phil and had a fun time in Miami, also were there to register Bia as a Brazilian! She now has dual citizenship...John also wants one, but alas... he needs to live in Brasil for a while... good reason for us to move down there in the future!
In early March we sponsored a post-Carnaval Mirim for the kids... Bia, of course was a bee...mom was a flower bush... and dad...the bee keeper. Bia had a blast and even took her first steps sambing away - passinhos de samba! She is in the right direction for being a better dancer than her mom (and dad!). She's taken several steps by herself since then... We still have to catch it on film and once we do, we'll post it here!
Later on, mom went away to NY for work... and on her way back met Bia and dad in Orlando from where they all drove to West Palm to meet with grandparents Engels! We had a great weekend all together. Thanks for the visit.
So- here are the visual highlights...
Miami beach, South beach, Hyatt pool

at West Palm Botanical Gardens, at the Crab House, feeding the giraffes, watching the safari
Lots of work these past two months...not much time for play...but some nonetheless...here are the highlights...
My first attempt to post a video...no sound, but you can see how Bia is crawling like a storm and playing lots...we're having loads of fun!! Another fun moment is eating...and Bia loooovvvveeees banana (unlike her mother!) as you can see in the picture, Bia had a banana facial... very good for the skin!
Bia is also already using her new car seat...which she loves...she thinks she is all grown up now! Bia and Iris went to the Santa Fe teaching Zoo and we all had a grand time...mommy talking away about all the animals and fun tid bits she knows (or doesn't know) about wildlife - note the emu (or is it an ostrich?) hiding in the back. Bia also had a nice Saturday with her daddy a couple of weeks ago (while mom did errands)...I think this will become a tradition!
We are not sure Bia enjoyed her first encounter with cold and snow...but we had a fun time showing her the winter nors. She sled a bit and made a snow angel...we couldn't do a snow man because the snow was too cold and would not stick together. Imagine that!
We all had a great time opening presents, eating and talking (lots!), and playing with the cousins. Thanks Terry and Steve for hosting such a wonderful feast.
Bia loves Barty... and he is very gentle with her...always trying to lick her hands or face...and he seems to watch over her and loves when she scratches his back while sitting on the high chair...and of course enjoys all the scraps of foods that fall down.
In early December we went down to Stuart, FL for Axogen's Christmas party. It rained a lot the day we got there, but the next day the skies opened up and we had a nice time at Jaime's house. Bia was in great spirits and posed to the camera a lot...so I took the chance to snaps lots of shots of our Bee...she had fun playing in the sun.
We had a nice intimate Christmas at home and opened our Xmas stockings right before taking off to MN... Bia's and Barty's first Christmas. Highlights were the kitty cat Santa brought Bia, which she loved! She was so excited when kitty began moving towards her and she hugged him, again and again... Barty also loved his present...a stuffed bunny rabbit that is great for tug-n-war, his favorite game. Christine was also very happy with her present...3 hours of massage! Can't wait to use it! and JP...he got a brand new golf bag.

Later in the month we met with Lisa, Marcelo and the twins, Mariana and Gustavo. We had a great time at the Animal Kingdom. Here we are enjoying a ride in the cho-cho train... the kids loved it and we were able to rest a bit from walking all over the place.
Although Bia missed it, I finally got my childhood dream realized...I met and took a picture with my favorite Disney character... Donald Duck!
We took so many great pictures that day...Bia was so happy...and actually started to pose for the camera! Here are a few for you to enjoy. What a great smile, no? Ok, I'm a 'mae coruja', as we say it in Brazil.
There were another two major events this October, Bia's baptism and visits from vo Michael and vo' Ruth - and auntie Liz.
Bia was a bit traumatized by the baptism... no wonder since she was dunked from head to toes, 'buck' naked in front of the whole congregation... Not sure why we let that happen... for the sake of tradition? Well, now we're having a bit of a hard time during bath time. Below you can see us at the altar, next to the tub, and Bia with her God parents, Liz and Peter. She looked adorable in her baptismal gown, didn't she?
Aw, happy birthday to Bia! :) read more
